Reflection Questions: Seek to Empower

Acts 1:1-8

Opening Questions

  1. When you hear the word empowerment, what comes to mind?
  2. Who has been a person that empowered you spiritually, and how did they impact your life?
  3. Why do you think Jesus told His disciples to wait before beginning their mission?

1. Seek God's Presence Before God's Assignment

"Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised..." (Acts 1:4)

  1. Why is it important to seek God's presence before serving Him?
  2. Have you ever been so busy doing God's work that you neglected spending time with God? What was the result?
  3. What does Psalm 27:4 teach us about David's priorities?
  4. What practical steps can you take to seek God more intentionally through prayer, worship, and His Word?
  5. How can we help others build a relationship with God rather than simply giving them responsibilities?

  • Am I more focused on doing things for God or being with God?

2. Seek the Power of the Holy Spirit

"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you..." (Acts 1:8)

  1. What is the difference between relying on our own abilities and relying on the Holy Spirit?
  2. How have you experienced the Holy Spirit's guidance or strength in your life?
  3. Why is spiritual power essential for effective ministry?
  4. According to Romans 5:3-5, how does the Holy Spirit help us endure challenges?
  5. What areas of your life currently need the Holy Spirit's power and guidance?

  • In what ways am I depending on myself instead of the Holy Spirit?

3. Seek to Equip Others for God's Mission

"...and you will be my witnesses..." (Acts 1:8)

  1. What does it mean to be a witness for Christ in today's world?
  2. How has someone helped equip you in your faith journey?
  3. What gifts, experiences, or testimony has God given you that could encourage others?
  4. Who is God calling you to mentor, encourage, or disciple?
  5. How can our church better equip people to serve and share their faith?

  • Am I intentionally investing in the spiritual growth of others?

4. Seek to Expand God's Kingdom Beyond Our Comfort Zone

"...in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8)

  1. What "Jerusalem" (your local community) has God placed you in to influence?
  2. Who might represent your "Samaria"—people who are different from you or outside your comfort zone?
  3. What fears or barriers keep you from reaching others with God's love?
  4. How can you participate in local outreach, missions, or community service?
  5. What does it look like to have God's heart for all people?

  • Is God calling me to step outside my comfort zone to serve or reach others?
